DELMER DARION WILDERING
‘Wildering’ is the first single from experimental duo Delmer Darion. The London-based pair are Tom Lenton and Oliver Jack, and they’re crafted a moving work centred on a particularly thoughtful phrase from Wallace Stevens’ poem ‘Esthetique du Mal’: “The death of Satan was a tragedy for the imagination.” Industrial beats pound fiercely in the far distance, while much closer to home, twisted vocal samples blend into one another in a style not far from Kate Bush’s ‘Waking The Witch’. Airy keyboards and haunting guitar lines give way to melody in the typical sense, but there is certainly enough to latch onto within. The process behind the song is an interesting one, with it originally being recorded on tape as a ballad, and then torn apart and pieced back together. They explain, “as we set out to write it, we knew that we wanted to structure the song in a way that would make it feel like it was decomposing. It starts loud and bright, and gradually falls away until the aggressive noisy bass takes over”. If you like your music creepy and leftfield, then pay attention to Delmer Darion. - Dan Peeke
